Matchup of the Week – Week 8

One team is a model of consistency, while the other is hot and cold (although their cold is well above average). Shittysauruses and TGIF will face off this week in a battle of our top two teams.

These teams are both seasoned veterans, and have played each other a total of 13 times. TGIF has taken 7 of those games, and Shitty now has a chance to even it up. This season TGIF holds the top 3 scores of the season, and although they finished a three week stretch where they were averaging only 135 points, they bounced right back to their 190+ point ways last week. Shitty has been on the opposite end, always scoring around 140-150 points, although that total has been dropping since week 3. Let’s look at this season so far:

Shitty is playing TGIF at an opportune time. The line-up is looking extra Questionable, and they’ll be without stud RBs James Robinson and Chris Carson. On top of these setbacks, the Thursday night game was also a bit of a let down for both teams, though TGIF is probably feeling the sting a little more with only 5.7 points from #1 WR Calvin Ridley. TGIF still has a lot to look forward to – they’ll have Russell Wilson back in the line up  and may have access to Jamaal Williams if Aaron Jones sits again. Shittysauruses will hope for big performances out of their core position players this week. While they’ve all been decent with nice floors, they have yet to provide a high ceiling. With a lot of question marks on both sides the flex plays should interesting, and TGIF will look to leverage their slight IDP edge to push them over the top.

ESPN and PWR both favor Shittysauruses after the Thursday night game with a TGIF score that looks a lot like their weeks 4-6 scores. With the way TGIF has performed historically, it’s their game to lose. Shittysauruses will have the bulk of their line-up playing at 10AM on Sunday, but the games will carry all the way through to MNF where we’ll see an IDP showdown between Blake Martinez (#2) and Devin White (#1), (and maybe Leonard Fournette).

Final Prediction:

Shittysauruses: 142

TGIF: 137

Week 7 Wrap-Up – 2020

Chaos is a ladder – The Shenanihads and no one else

It was a bounce back week for TGIF, Mega Shark, and Boomers, who all scored 40+ more than the previous week. Overall scores were up this week, the Shenanihads score of 110.41 was the highest low score of the season. Despite being 6th in points over the last 3 weeks, Giant Octopus has now won 3 in a row and is tied for division lead. On the opposite end, Shittysauruses have a 72% wins against the field and are 2nd in points for the season, yet took another loss this week. No one has more close losses than the Shittysaurses, they’re averaging 152 points in losses this season.

Mega Shark is feeling the sting as well – they scored their second highest score for the season and the second highest score of the week, but came away with a loss. TGIF scored 196.52, which was only their second highest score of the season, but a nice bounce back. They had been averaging 132 points the three weeks before this weeks matchup. Atoms are dead last in points over the last month, only averaging 112 points. This week it didn’t matter as they came out with a win with the third lowest score.

Matchup of the Week – Week 7

Two 3-3 teams both in the middle of their own tough divisional race. A win for either team could catapult them into the upper half of their division, in a season where it looks like every win will matter.

These teams have matched up three times since The Nibblonians joined in 2018, but have gone to Giant Octopus all three times. Is now the perfect time for Nibblonian revenge? These teams certainly aren’t an even matchup coming into this week. Nibblonians are third in points for the season while Giant Octopus is dead last. Let’s take a look at how that breaks down:

The matchup becomes interesting when you look at the teams recent performance. Giant Octopus just put up their highest score of the season (145) while The Nibblonians have just put up their second worst score (131.36). Each team has scored about 136 points over the last two weeks. The Nibblonians will also be without one of their star receivers, Adam Thielen, while Giant Octopus will miss rising star Justin Jefferson. No team has scored more points from the WR position than Nibblonians, and their impressive depth has given them strong performance from the Flex positions. Giant Octopus will rely on Kyler Murray to give them the edge, and will have to do something to fix the tight end position. Giant Octopus has scored an average of 1.5 points at tight end, absolutely dead bottom of the rankings.

ESPN will surely give the nod to Nibblonians once their full line up is set, though not by much. My model gives a slight edge to Nibblonians as well, with most of the extra points coming from tight end and flex positions, where Giant Octopus has struggled. This game will kick off with Darius Slayton on Thursday night, and carry through with Cooper Kupp on Monday night.

Final Prediction:

The Nibblonians: 147

Giant Octopus: 142

Week 6 Wrap-Up – 2020

Our worst scoring week of the season as we entered our second week of bye’s. Half the teams scored less than 130 points and the top score of the week was the lowest of the season (159.15). The owner of that score, the Shenanihads, have quietly been just outside the top 4 all season, but have scored the 3rd most points over the last month. They just came off a victory over the #1 team (TGIF) and now sit atop The Misfits division. The next two weeks they’ll face off against the Atoms (#9) and Boomers (#10), two cake matchups.

Shittysauruses and Surfers are the other two teams that have dominated over that stretch, although only one could win this week. Shittysauruses pulled ahead this week and have scored an amazingly consistent 150 points over the last three weeks. They’ll face the Boomers (#10) this week, but then face TGIF (#1), Nibblonians (#4), and Pumaskulls (#3) the three weeks after that.

Power rank darlings Pumaskulls are 9th in points over the last 3 weeks yet pulled out a win over the I’ll-take-my-bye-weeks-all-at-once Mega Shark. Mega Shark has seen their score drop for 4 straight weeks and put up the lowest score of any team for 2020, and Mega Shark‘s lowest score since 2017.

TGIF has also been slipping up. They put up their worst score of the season as well (although double what Mega Shark put up) and rank 7th in points over the last three weeks. Despite that they’ve still got the highest point total for the season and are tied for wins. They’ve got a mixed bag of a schedule over the next month, but thankfully includes games with Mega Shark (#11), Giant Octopus (#12), and Atoms (#9).

Nibblonians are sitting on top of a mostly unlucky group. They took the win this week but despite being 3rd in points for the season, they are in 4th place in a competitive division.

Matchup of the Week – Week 5

A team surging and a team having a hard time collecting wins. Who will come out on top?

The Surfers joined the league in 2016 and who to better show them what defeat feels like than the Shittysauruses. Surfers could only muster 106 points in their first week of fantasy football and Shelbyville beat them easily. The Surfers would go on to finish with a respectable 9-5 record, but Shittysauruses would take home the Trophy. The teams have played a total of 4 times, and each team coming home with 2 victories. This year, the teams are nearly tied for the most points over the last three weeks, each scoring an average of 160. Lets take a look at their 2020 stats:

Β
Β

Both teams are currently holding a 2-3 record, yet both teams could have more. Shelbyville is sitting with 72% wins against the field and the Surfers with a respectable 58%. Both teams have done reasonably well with the core positions: Strong RB starters, high ceiling WRs, but Shellbyville has struggled recently with the QB, and the Surfers have been fighting to find a starting TE all season. Unfortunately for Surfers, their top weapon Dalvin Cook will sit this week with an injury.Β

I can’t speak for ESPN because of the Surfers wacky roster strategies, but PWR currently favors the Shitty dinosaur. While IDP and their WRs project about the same, Shitty has a huge advantage at the RB and TE position. This matchup could see a combined 14 players in the 10am slate, but most of the heavy hitters won’t be playing until the afternoon and Monday slates. Zeke will close out the last game of the week in what will hopefully be a nail biter.Β

Final Prediction:

Butthole Surfers: 137

Shellbyville Shittysauruses: 148Β Β

Week 5 Wrap-Up – 2020

What a wild, low-scoring week. Week 5 saw three teams score under 120, the first time this has happened this year. Not everyone saw a decreased total – The Surfers and Bunnies have increased their point total every week since week 2 and capped this week off with a team high scores of 171.85 and 160.2 points. Boomers have been following an opposite trend and have dropped in points every week since week 2. With their first loss, their win percentage has dropped to 80%, a stark comparison to their win percentage vs the field of 27%. TGIF hasn’t seen quite the same drop off, but they have posted an average total of 136 points over the last 2 weeks along with a 1-1 record. Shittysauruses are now tied for wins against the field with TGIF but have had a fairly unlucky season so far. They’ll now have to face the Surfers (#5), Boomers (#11), TGIF (#1), Nibblonians (#4), and Pumaskulls (#3).

Matchup of the Week – Week 4

A matchup between a maybe underrated Bunnies and the vastly overrated Boomers.

These teams have played each other only 7 times since 2011, with no matchups in the 2016-18 seasons (how??). They are almost even split, with 4 wins for Bunnies and 3 wins for the Boomers. Their last match up was in the 2019 season, with the Boomers crushing the Bunnies 185.45 to 136.97. The Boomers effort was led by a trio of familiar faces: 33 points from Dark Prescott, 38 points from CMC, and 36 points from Austin Ekeler. The Boomers have been without CMC for most of the year, and now will be without Ekeler. Lets take a look at these 2020 stats:

Β
Β

The Boomers have been riding an extremely favorable schedule to open up the year. They are currently undefeated while holding the third lowest points for, and the least points against. The Bunnies are now sitting at 2-2 thanks to some timely stat corrections, but hold a sub-average point average and wins against the field. They’ve recently began surging thanks to the acquisitions of Mike Davis and Joe Mixon. The Boomers have relied heavily on the performance of Dak Prescott who has scored an incredible 23% of the Boomers total points this season. This is as vulnerable as we’ve seen an undefeated team: 2 stud RBs hurt, bye weeks and Covid pulling out flex players. The Boomers will need to make quite a few moves to even put together a roster this week.Β

ESPN and PWR both agree that it’s an uphill battle for the Boomers. What these systems can’t account for, is the raw power of unbelievable luck that carries a team through an entire season. We’ve seen worse teams win harder matchups. The bulk of the players will be playing in the 10AM slot on Sunday. There will be a handful of players playing in the afternoon and night games, and then the Boomers (and Pumaskulls) will pray that the Bills will play football on Tuesday night.

Final Prediction:

Fluffy Bunnies: 134

Boomers: 112Β Β

(Boomers projection is based on them filling current empty spots on their roster. The floor is much lower)
