Week 4 Wrap-Up – 2020

What another wild week. Boomers become the only undefeated team despite posting their lowest score of the season, and holding the 3rd lowest point total for the season. TGIF posted a score for mortals, and is now “only” has a win percentage of 77% against the field. Shittysauruses are right behind them with a 72%, pulling off a win with the smallest margin of the season (we’ll see if it stands). Mega Shark dropped heavily after last weeks success, and now must face the gauntlet of Nibblonians (#4 in PWR), Pumaskulls (#2), and TGIF (#1). Bunnies can take solace in the fact that they set the absolute best line-up they could – good for the 4th highest score of the week – but… they had to watch their lead trickle and disappear in the last game of the week. If it weren’t for the Surfers, they would have had the highest losing score of the week. The Surfers took the L, but posted the second highest score of the week and their highest score of the season. They’ll now face off against the 2nd easiest schedule of the next 5 weeks – Shenanihads (8), Shittysauruses (3), Bunnies (6), Octo (12), and Narwhals (11). Despite having a top half power field rank, the Atoms are now sitting at the bottom of a very tough division and have to hope this week was just a fluke.

Week 3 Wrap-Up – 2020

What an awful week (for me, not you). The average score across the league was down for the week, but mostly because of the underperforming Giant Octopus and Rusty Narwhals. Mega Shark enjoyed their best score of the season backed by the #1 QB, RB, and WR performance of the week. Bunnies came away with a win despite only scoring 125 points on the week while the Nibblonians dropped to 0-3 on the season with their first bad score. It’s the first week where TGIF didn’t have the top score and their wins against the field have dropped to a paltry 90%. Tight end was a wasteland this week, with only one of the top-5 even being rostered.

Matchup of the Week – Week 3

The Bestway Bowl! Two of our oldest teams are going at it again! What did those line-ups look like in 2010?

  • Danny Amendola and Drew Brees! Now on the Atoms!
  • TGIF’s favorite player of all time: Matt Forte.
  • The results of their first match-up of all time? A stunning 52 to 49 defeat of the Atoms (these were low scores even at the time).

Since then, they’ve played 12 more times against each other with TGIF taking another 10 victories. Is this the time for Atoms to take some revenge? Let’s look at the teams in 2020:

Unfortunately for the Atoms, this is a scorching hot TGIF team. Maybe one of the best teams we’ve ever seen. They’ve scored an average of 195 points in the first two weeks, and seem to have the depth and options to keep it going. Atoms have been no slouch in year 11, averaging 153 points to start the season. Both teams have had a pretty balanced effort, though TGIF has been killing the QB position with the incredible Russ Wilson. Both teams have struggled a bit with the flex position, and the Atoms core of WR and RB have slightly outscored TGIFs. This matchup will feature the top three wide receivers in the league as well as the number one running back. There should be plenty of points to go around.

The PWR system gives a heavy nod to TGIF while ESPN slightly favors ESPN. TGIF looks to take a big edge in the areas that they’ve been successful – QB and IDP. We’ll see the matchup kick off with James Robinson on Thursday night and carry through to all Atom’s slate of Aaron Jones, Drew Brees, and Davante Adams on Sunday night. Atoms would have to do pretty terrible for TGIF to not sweat that crew. They’re projected for about 45 points, but have a ceiling of nearly 90 points. TGIF will have a busy slate of football on Sunday, watching their entire team play in the 10AM or 1:30PM games.

Final Prediction:

Springfield Atoms: 138

TGIF: 145

(How stupid does this look when they’ve done back to back 195)

Week 2 Wrap-Up – 2020

What an incredible week. It was a week of the haves and the have-nots with scores ranging from 100 to nearly 200. Injuries are rampant and the top and bottom half of the leagues are starting to shake out. Not only that but it appears as though a power division is emerging.

Matchup of the Week – Week 2

Two teams that came away with a win in week one, but both may have under performed. These teams have played six times in the past, with the Butthole Surfers taking victory in five of the match-ups. 5 of the games the two teams were within 10 points of the other. Is it time for the Boomers to reverse their luck and get some revenge?

Each team is configured a little bit differently, with the Boomers relying on their strong trio of running backs, and the Surfers falling back on their wide receiver group. Injuries will also play a big role as the Surfers currently have 3 players on IR, and another 2 questionable to play.

The projections have this one at a dead 50/50 split. The Boomers will kick things off with a possible 7 players in the 10am Sunday slot, as well as close things out with 2 players in MNF.

Final Prediction:

Butthole Surfers: 136

Nellis AFB Boomers: 137
