Keeper Deep Dive

In this article I’ll look at my team from last year and go over some potential keeper decisions (if keepers were active last year).

First, lets look at my roster at the end of the year. For low (cheap) inflation I used a flat $5 per season per player. For high (expensive) inflation I used $10 + 20% of the players draft price.

Now I’ll walk through each player and see what I want to do in an unlimited keeper format.

Patrick Mahomes

With low or high inflation this one is a slam dunk keep. I don’t normally like paying $14 for QB, but this is too much value

Alvin Kamara

On the low inflation side I’d probably keep because I like the player so much and the value is very close to what he’s going for on draft day . On the expensive inflation, there’s just no way I can keep him at $74. Best to let him go and just bid on him again and try getting him around that $55 mark if I want him again.

CMC

Same story as Kamara. Definitely keeping at the cheap inflation but can’t possible keep at $71.

James Conner

Another slam dunk pick like Mahomes. Good value no matter what the cost of inflation is.

AJ Green

Release at either price. Without his injury it might have been close at $41 but now it’s way too much money and if i really want him I can try to just bid on him again for $10-20.

Keenan Allen

Release at either price point. He’s a great player but I got him in a draft and I think the previous owner paid too much in the draft. Best to release and re-bid if I want him.

Tyler Lockett

Another trade acquisition this one is a little tougher. At the low end of inflation I definitely keep but on the high end I’m not so sure. Looking at the rest of my high end keep team (Mahomes, Conner) I probably keep because I’ve saved so much on those players that I can afford to keep Lockett at this price even though it’s not really a “value”.

George Kittle

Another slam dunk keep at either price point.

Sony Michel

Probably keep at either price point but I’m not so sure I’m a Michel believer any more and probably would return him at the expensive price point and let someone else deal with it.

John Brown

Throw back at either price. He was a decent deal last year but was terrible down the stretch and if I want him again I can get him for peanuts.

Gronk

Doesn’t play anymore so easy drop…. right?

Courtland Sutton.

Probably release at either price point because it’s another dude I’m out on. Even if I want him I can probably rebuy at the low price.

Sammy Watkins

Definite keep at the low price point and a maybe keep even at $20 if I’m a big Watkins believer.

Christian Kirk

Throw back at either price because I can probably get him back if I want him.

Jaylen Samuels

Throw back at either price point.

All IDP guys

Probably throw back all at their prices. IDP guys just go for way too cheap.

High Inflation Team

So lets look and see at the guys I want to keep if we have high inflation:

  • Patrick Mahomes: $14
  • James Conner: $14
  • Tyler Lockett: $24
  • George Kittle: $14

$66 worth of players so I’ll have $134 going into the draft. I have a good QB and TE, a stud RB and a decent WR. I’ll have plenty of money to grab a couple studs at RB/WR and then fill out my roster from there. The high inflation definitely locked me out from keeping any of my studs and most of my late round draft picks and waiver wire guys unless they were absolute bombs.

Low Inflation Team

  • Alvin Kamara: $56
  • CMC: $54
  • Patrick Mahomes: $6
  • James Conner: $6
  • Tyler Lockett: $15
  • George Kittle: $6
  • Sony Michel: $11
  • Sammy Watkins: $11

I’m now able to keep my studs and I have a much more fleshed out roster. This would cost me a total of $165 to keep all these guys so I’d really only have $35 to fill out the rest of my 10 positions, BUT I have almost an entire roster full of guys I like.

Can Only Keep Three Players

This is where it gets a little interesting. If I can only keep three players my team is still going to look exactly like the High Inflation team, I’d just have to make one cut. With the low inflation team I’d have to make some interesting decisions. Keep my studs and spend the rest of my money on low value guys to kill out my roster? Or keep my crazy values like Conner/Mahomes/Kittle and then re-spend my money on whatever studs are available in the draft poo.
