End of Season Review 2012

Inland Division:

Team GoInsanelyFast:

The season: TGIF started the season extremely hot with the best record in the league and leading in points. Since that point they’ve gone 3-4 and ranked 10th in points in the second half. They’ve definitely had one of the easier schedules and rank 11th in points scored against. With a tougher schedule we might have seen the last of TGIF in a division that absolutely fell apart in the second half. With quarterback woes and an injured backfield it’s no wonder this team slowed down, but they still finished the season at the top of their division, and scored a second year playoff spot.

Robot Unicorn:

The season: Robot Unicorn snuck into the playoffs for the first time this year despite a slew of injuries and ranking in the bottom-half of most of the statistical categories. While the Unicorn’s had the toughest schedule of the year team-wise, they only had the 7th most points scored against. Since the mid-season review the Robots have gone 4-3 and barely edged out Annexation and the Bunnies for a wild-card spot. With one more loss, their tie-breakers surely would have left them in the cold. At the halfway point I wrote that the Unicorns fate was up to the health of their players and unfortunately, the situation had only gotten worse.

Annexation of Puerto Rico:

The season: Annexation made a good push for it in the second half, but unfortunately lost one too many games to make it into the playoffs. Although they had one of the more well-rounded teams, many players fell short of their expectations. With one of the easiest schedules in the league and 9th in points scored against the opportunity was definitely there, but they only managed to nab 3 wins in the second half.

Nellis A.F.B. Boomers:

The season: After week 5 the Boomers were sitting at 4-1 and near the top of the league. From that point on they would lose the next 7 games and the next 8 out of 9. The streak started as an unlucky streak and turned ugly when players began to hit the IR. Boomers lead the league in points scored against and were one of the first teams eliminated from playoffs. A crushing season for a team that had made playoffs in the previous two seasons.

Scruffy Looking Nerf Herders:

The season: Replace the bad luck from the Boomers with apathy and you get the Nerf Herders season. With a middle of the pack schedule and points against, you have a team that definitely had the opportunity. All the Nerf Herders have done since the halfway point is lose every single game on a 9 game losing binge  while scoring the second fewest points. There’s not much to say about the Herders season besides underperforming players. The season isn’t without merit, as they’ve set the all time record for lowest score with 38.1 points, a record that won’t be broken anytime soon.

Springfield Atoms:

The season: A.F.B. Boomers, Philadelphia Shenanihads, and Mega Shark: hang your head in shame. You got beat by a team that scored dead last in points, and power rank. The Atoms season was pretty forgettable, marred by injuries and rookies that didn’t pan out. The nail in the coffin was a trade that deprived the Atoms of their best player for depth in bye week hell (a move that paid off, if just for a week). Atoms continue to draft and play young, risky players, and one of these seasons its going to pay off handsomely. Just not this season.

Coastal Division:

Giant Octopus

The season: The comeback story of the year, Giant Octopus started the season 0-4 and then went on an absolute tear winning the next 10 games in a row.  While Giant Octopus finished with the easiest schedule and 10th in points against, they could have easily destroyed any team in the way. A series of trades led to high powered offense that scored over 140 points in the last three games of the season. From dead last to first place in the league, Giant Octopus hopes to continue their success straight through the Bo Bowl.

Shelbyville Shittysauruses:

The season: The Shittysauruses went 5-2 in the second half and secured their second consecutive playoff spot. A rough season with just enough injuries to keep them down, but not out, Shelbyville could be poised for a second shot at the Bo Bowl title. Losing their first and second round picks is really the only thing that kept their very solid season in check.

Fluffy Bunnies:

The season: The other heartbreak of the season, the Bunnies completely dominated when it came to scoring points, but had even worse luck than the Boomers. Ranked 3rd in points against, but with the 2nd easiest schedule in the league, teams absolutely came out to play against the Bunnies. One win away from a wildcard spot, it was definitely a hard season to swallow for the Bunnies, but they have to feel good about making the right choices.

Philadelphia Shenanihads:

The season: With the 3rd easiest schedule and ranking 12th in points against, the Shenanihads were a team that just couldn’t capitalize on a good situation. They came within a win of a wildcard spot, but their middling line-up couldn’t muster up the points for a win. Many of the Shenanihads star performers came back to earth in the second half while the teams high-scoring defenses both underperformed. There wasn’t much spectacular about the Shenanihads season and had the cards fallen differently they could have just of easily ended the season grouped up with the Atoms.

Dreadmetal Pumaskulls:

The season: With one of the toughest second half schedules some would say that the Pumaskulls died of a broken heart. Sitting at 6-5 going to week 12, the Pumaskulls knew that every game would count. Unfortunately they lost the next 2 and their hopes were dashed. With the 2nd highest points against and a pretty rough schedule, one can’t help but wonder what the Dreadmetal season could have looked like.

Mega Shark:

The season: Mega Shark picked up right where they left off at the midpoint of the season going 3-4 and averaging just about the same amount of points as they did at the half. With an offense that dominated some weeks and completely fell short some, there were just too many underperformers on the Sharks to hope to compete all season.
