Two 3-3 teams both in the middle of their own tough divisional race. A win for either team could catapult them into the upper half of their division, in a season where it looks like every win will matter.
These teams have matched up three times since The Nibblonians joined in 2018, but have gone to Giant Octopus all three times. Is now the perfect time for Nibblonian revenge? These teams certainly aren’t an even matchup coming into this week. Nibblonians are third in points for the season while Giant Octopus is dead last. Let’s take a look at how that breaks down:
The matchup becomes interesting when you look at the teams recent performance. Giant Octopus just put up their highest score of the season (145) while The Nibblonians have just put up their second worst score (131.36). Each team has scored about 136 points over the last two weeks. The Nibblonians will also be without one of their star receivers, Adam Thielen, while Giant Octopus will miss rising star Justin Jefferson. No team has scored more points from the WR position than Nibblonians, and their impressive depth has given them strong performance from the Flex positions. Giant Octopus will rely on Kyler Murray to give them the edge, and will have to do something to fix the tight end position. Giant Octopus has scored an average of 1.5 points at tight end, absolutely dead bottom of the rankings.
ESPN will surely give the nod to Nibblonians once their full line up is set, though not by much. My model gives a slight edge to Nibblonians as well, with most of the extra points coming from tight end and flex positions, where Giant Octopus has struggled. This game will kick off with Darius Slayton on Thursday night, and carry through with Cooper Kupp on Monday night.
Final Prediction:
The Nibblonians: 147
Giant Octopus: 142
