Matchup of the Week – Week 3

The Bestway Bowl! Two of our oldest teams are going at it again! What did those line-ups look like in 2010?

  • Danny Amendola and Drew Brees! Now on the Atoms!
  • TGIF’s favorite player of all time: Matt Forte.
  • The results of their first match-up of all time? A stunning 52 to 49 defeat of the Atoms (these were low scores even at the time).

Since then, they’ve played 12 more times against each other with TGIF taking another 10 victories. Is this the time for Atoms to take some revenge? Let’s look at the teams in 2020:

Unfortunately for the Atoms, this is a scorching hot TGIF team. Maybe one of the best teams we’ve ever seen. They’ve scored an average of 195 points in the first two weeks, and seem to have the depth and options to keep it going. Atoms have been no slouch in year 11, averaging 153 points to start the season. Both teams have had a pretty balanced effort, though TGIF has been killing the QB position with the incredible Russ Wilson. Both teams have struggled a bit with the flex position, and the Atoms core of WR and RB have slightly outscored TGIFs. This matchup will feature the top three wide receivers in the league as well as the number one running back. There should be plenty of points to go around.

The PWR system gives a heavy nod to TGIF while ESPN slightly favors ESPN. TGIF looks to take a big edge in the areas that they’ve been successful – QB and IDP. We’ll see the matchup kick off with James Robinson on Thursday night and carry through to all Atom’s slate of Aaron Jones, Drew Brees, and Davante Adams on Sunday night. Atoms would have to do pretty terrible for TGIF to not sweat that crew. They’re projected for about 45 points, but have a ceiling of nearly 90 points. TGIF will have a busy slate of football on Sunday, watching their entire team play in the 10AM or 1:30PM games.

Final Prediction:

Springfield Atoms: 138

TGIF: 145

(How stupid does this look when they’ve done back to back 195)

  1. Davante Adams probably out this weekend, Eric starts with a near-30 burger from universally recognized stud James Robinson. Does not look good for Martin.

But hey, Eric could have a bad week and only score 160 so ATOM can sneak in there…

    1. Really enjoyed the thorough and professional MOTW analysis starting with the throw back to our 2010 matchup. Wow those were ugly lineups from 2010. Who are those guys??? FORTE HOF. TGIF All Time record of 10-2 against the ATOMS. Looking forward to seeing next weeks MOTW analysis after I crush the ATOMS this week!
