I’ve updated the Bo Knows Rulebook and here are the full keeper rules with a little explanation.
Amount: A team will be able to keep on their roster a total of four players.
As determined by the voting round we just did. This is four players total. Before the draft each season you will have to decide which of the players you would like to keep *up to* a total of four. If you don’t like your players or you only have one or two that you want to keep, that’s fine.
Cost:
Drafted players: Drafted players cost will be the same as their auction value from the season in which they were drafted.
Traded players: A player traded to another team will retain itβs previous cost.
Drafted players dropped to waiver: A player that was drafted but later dropped to the waiver wire will retain their draft price if they are later added to a roster and kept for the following season.
Waiver Wire: A player that is picked up from the waiver wire will have a base cost of $1.
This is mostly covered in the previous analysis posts but should hopefully be self explanatory. The drafted players being dropped is to prevent situations where a team with high FAAB drops their $70 player, just to pick them back up off the waiver wire and keep a “$1” waiver wire player. This also includes a different team picking up a dropped drafted player.
Inflation: Each year a player is kept, their cost will increase following the following formula (All values are rounded up):
(Cost + $5) * 1.2
This represents a flat $5 as well as a 20% increase to the players price.
Again, something we voted on. Only important thing to note is that the $5 is added *before* the increase in percent. This means that a $1 waiver wire player will cost $8 to keep.
Auction Budget: A teamβs auction budget will be reduced by the cost of the total sum of the players they have decided to keep after inflation. A team cannot keep more players than they can afford to fill out their roster at $1 a slot.Β
($200 – Keepers Cost / Remaining Roster slots) must be greater than $1
After each team declares their keepers you’ll be given your auction budget. If I’m keeping a $46 player and two $8 waiver wire players, my budget for the upcoming auction would be $138. If I’m just keeping 4 waiver wire players ($8 x 4), I’d have $168 for the upcoming auction. If I scored on a bunch of expensive-ish players ($48, $36, $22, and $35 after inflation), I would only have $59 for the upcoming auction. I only included the last line in case it comes up, but you would have to keep $186 worth of players to violate that rule.
Duration: There is no max duration as to how long a team can keep a player.
Because of the reasonably high inflation, there’s no reason to include artificial caps on how long players can be kept. You can see the duration analysis here if you’d like more examples.
Deadline: Only players acquired before the trade deadline will be eligible to be kept the following season.
Obviously you can’t trade for players after the trade deadline, but waiver wire picks will only be eligible to be kept if they were acquired *before* the trade deadline. Any pickups made after that will be ineligible to be kept the following year.
Deadline to declare keepers: Players be kept must be declared one week before the draft.
The last item we voted on. One week before the draft everyone will declare to the league up to four players they’d like to keep and the commissioner will post the keepers along with each teams budget online for viewing.
